Changes and Project Runway Finale

Posted in Fashion on April 24, 2010 by Fashionplus 3

Fashion Plus 3 Blog contributors Dannika, Micaela, and Jasmine

Hey everyone! We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has visited the blog, or left a comment on our hard work thus far.  When we started the blog, we had no idea it would receive the attention that it has, we just loved fashion (plus writing, cooking, games, music, etc) and we’re overwhelmed by the support we have received. We thank you all.  We have a lot planned for the future of Fashionplus3 (this is why posting has been slim to none in the past two weeks), and when we’re done we will keep you posted with updates!  So, again, thank you and we can’t wait to share with you the future of Fashionplus3!

Now, on to Project Runway…

So, I have already confessed my love for Project Runway in my post about Christian Siriano for Pay less and the love is still growing as season 7 had me glued to my DVR!  Just last Thursday a winner was crowned, (yay, Seth Aaron) and I must weigh in on the final collections.  If you been keeping up with my tweets (If you haven’t they are over there →→→), you would get an idea of what I thought of the sneak preview of everyone’s collections.  With that being said, the actual show at Bryant Park changed my mind completely. What I thought about each designer changed with every piece that hit the Runway.  Check it out:

Emilio

I want to discuss Emilio first, because he should have won this season, but did not.  I expected Emilio to walk away with the title, as he pretty much set it up for himself, winning challenge after challenge during the show, but I always felt that his ego would get the best of him and it did. His collection actually steered away from what made him win challenges during the show (mostly elegant, tasteful and well made, despite the barely there bikini) and he made a collection that was dated (90′s inspired) and in the words of Tim Gunn “Frankly, old.” Emilio basically did what he did best, which was let his ego get in the way of himself.  His ego was so big by this time he felt he had no competition.  But I must say, he was right.  He didn’t have any competition with the competitors.  The real competition was with himself.  Could he allow himself to make a great collection? Unfortunately that answer is no.  Maybe if he would have put his ego aside, he might have created one of the best collections to ever hit Project Runway, instead of focusing on  clothes for a specific customer.   Note to Emilio:  Your final collection is about you, not your customers (but your so arrogant, you didn’t even think about yourself, how ironic is that).

Mila

Mila’s collection was the most surprising to me as I had already thought the judges made a mistake in choosing her over Jay, because the pieces she presented in their show-down were boring, matronly and extremely dated.  However, a tip from the judges about styling (which should have been considered cheating) and some unexpected strong pieces made Mila’s collection more enjoyable than I expected.  Some of her best pieces from her collection involved color…well, the small amount that she did use, as the collection was black and white and color blocked in strategic lines.  Note to Mila :  Have you ever heard of the color wheel?

Seth Aaron

As for Seth Aaron, I actually predicted that he would win, as his construction wowed me not only during every challenge, but also in his final collection.  He’s also not afraid to be cool, and is literally the fastest designer there.  Congrats Seth! Note to Seth:  Though you have extremely creative ideas, too much hounds-tooth and tweed will eventually irritate all of your customer’s skin.

Side Note and Rant to Seth: Dedicating your line to 1940′s German military (a.k.a Nazi) is not cool.

Check out this funny article from New York Magazine on the finale.

What do you guys think?  Who should have won?

It’s Raining…Boots?

Posted in Fashion on April 9, 2010 by Fashionplus 3

Aah, April showers bring May flowers, but we’ll have to wait for the flowers as Chicago has seen some heavy rain in the past week or so.  In fact, if the weather people get it right, it is set to rain again on Sunday and Monday, which brings me to three important essentials in which two you may own and one you might not.  Those are a nice trench coat (or a parka), an umbrella and rain boots.  However, the third essential most people (like me) don’t own.  I’ve been out time and time again, and maybe one in every 10 people have a pair of rain boots on, while the rest of us try to make it around in gym shoes, heels and (lord forbid) snow boots.  Well, I’m tired of ruining my favorite jeans, or my favorite shoes from water damage.  I’m tired of coming home with wet socks and toes. Thus, I have found some cheap, yet stylish enough rain boots to get us though this rainy season.  It’s raining boots!

Trending: Nude!

Posted in Fashion on April 6, 2010 by Fashionplus 3

Spring is blossoming, with warm weather and cool breezes and fashion lightening up for a change.  Everywhere I look someone has found (including myself) a floral something to represent Spring in their wardrobe.  But as I was trying on my bit of floral, I couldn’t help but remember “The Devil Wear’s Prada” Miranda Priestly saying in a meeting. “Floral, for Spring…Groundbreaking.” With every bit of disdain and even some of Miranda’s sarcasm, I simply tossed back the floral option looking for something new and potentially groundbreaking and lo and behold Nude is that option for a clean, romantic look for Spring.

Nude! Now I know there’s a debate on what colors qualify as nude, but I believe very light pinks, tawny, tan and camel colors (Or within that range) qualify.  So without further ado, here’s my suggestions (and my next wish list, lol):

Look Book: Spring 2010

Posted in Beauty, Fashion, Modeling with tags , , , , on April 2, 2010 by Fashionplus 3

Hi guys, we’ve been pretty busy over here at Fashionplus3 putting together a small Spring look book  that I hope inspires you to have fun with fashion this spring.  Our looks are light, bright and fun for spring and for those of you who aren’t ready to give up your black leggings, fear not, because they are going to be in style all year round.  Check it out:

Dannika is wearing blue, a color that is definitely trending for Spring.  The cool, almost turquoise color pairs perfectly with the gold and nude makeup palette.  Try it, you’ll feel like an updated Cleopatra!

Want a night look that will translate Spring? Try purple like Jasmine did and add some leggings to let the shirt pop at night.  Also, for added sex appeal, bring in some croc heels for a fierce look! Also don’t be afraid to play with purple on the lids.  It’s a color that flatters everyone!

Want to bring out your inner girl-y girl? Then don’t hesitate to pull out pinks, and floral to achieve maximum girl-y girl potential! Pair together a floral dress like Micaela did with a cardigan in the same color family as the dress and feel instantly chicer and prettier (You can also get away with updating an Easter dress, you know you want to :) .  Add some beautiful gold accessories to complete the look and watch as flowers bloom every where you walk!Hope you like our Spring look book.  Don’t hesitate  to try them out on yourself!

On Dannika: Earrings, dress and shoes from Torrid.com

On Jasmine: Top, leggings and shoes from Torrid.com

On Micaela: Cardigan from Pay Half, Dress from Dots, Shoes from Torrid.com

First OOTD!

Hey guys, we’ve been a bit MIA for the past couple of weeks but we have lots to share with everyone, and foremost is the very first outfit of the day.  We went ahead and broke about the billion dollar camera and did a couple of fashion shots so you guys can get an idea of our sense of fashion (and to get some modeling experience as well).  So each week we will have a theme that inspires out clothing and then our interpretation of that style.  So, first up is trendy, and me:

When I think trendy one name really comes to mind, Kim Kardashian.  From her chic blazers to skinny jeans/leggings, high fashion tops and hot shoes, she oozes chic and glam all at the same time, so here is my interpretation of that for us fashionable big gals! Hope you like it:

Spolight on new author: Kimmi Illuminati

Posted in Books, Fashion, Life on March 6, 2010 by Fashionplus 3

Meet Kimberlyn Jackson, a new author and a budding fashionista who grabbed my attention right away with a plethora of tattoos and fashion.  A Chicago native that now resides in Atlanta, Kimmi Illuminati  is hitting the  world with her first novel, “Daddy’s Girl…Dangerously in Love”, which details the exciting but unpredictable events of the main character Khi.  At first glance one is captivated by her standout fashion, but after peeling back her layers one finds an intelligent, artistic woman whose tattoos have very special meanings.   The four stars that adorn her neck represent people in her life that she has lost, one being her mother that she lost at the tender age of 11.  Kimberlyn then turned to writing and getting tattoos as her outlet to cope with losing so many important people in her life.  With writing fueling her fire, she is currently developing her own publishing company and is presenting us with her first novel (published by I-Universe) on March 27, 2010, along with a book signing where she will read chapters of her next book “Such a Dirty Game.” With such fiery fashion, and writing under her belt, Kimmi is definitely a fashion plus diva!

If your in the Chicagoland area come out and support Kimberlyn on March 27, 2010 at L.J’s Linen room at 8112 S. Stoney Island for her book signing from 6:00p.m. until 11:00 p.m. Fashionplus3 will be representing!

Also checkout Kimmi Illuminati on her website at www.5starrliterally.com where you can read the first three chapter’s of her first novel, “Daddy’s Girl…Dangerously in Love” and on facebook.  Also checkout her fashion below.

StyleChicago.com Resolutions Party 2010

Posted in Health and Fitness, Life on February 24, 2010 by Fashionplus 3

Every year, particularly around the new year, people make resolutions to change their lives for the better for the upcoming year. Well, I figured I’d skip writing a list of my own and go to StyleChicago.com’s Resolutions party and let them inspire me for the year ahead.  There were a host of sponsers that offered MAC makeup to Lash extensions that made me feel as if I was at a spa convention! I was truly inspired to be even more fashionable, healthy (when I say healthy, I mean in terms of my body and what it needs to be healthy, not to be skinny, there’s a difference) and fabulous than I already self-proclaim myself to be!  And then, like icing on a fruit cake we received goodie bags, which were literally filled to the brim with products that I’m sure I will be blogging about in the near future! You can see me stalking the tables in the pictures below like Waldo in “Where’s Waldo” lol.

Hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I did!

Also go to StyleChicago.com if you are in the Chicago land area and sign up to receive notifications of their future events, because this was my second and it was fabulous, so hopefully I’ll see you guys at the next one!

Beauty Spotlight: Urban Decay, and Kandee

Posted in Beauty on February 15, 2010 by Fashionplus 3

So, I love Urban Decay beauty products.  The colors are rich and fun and exciting and they always release the coolest color palettes and well as an artist and a makeup artist, I get so over-excited about palettes.  So when I saw the Alice in Wonderland palette pop up on Sephora.com , I wanted it so bad! But lo, it sold out in two days!  Well, if I can’t have it, at least I get to look at it…sigh.

Disney Alice In Wonderland Palette

Check out my favorite, fun and bubbly makeup artist to watch on Youtube, Kandee Johnson.  She is so talented, and she proves why I love makeup so much, because it is just another medium used to created art:  Check her out on these videos talking about the palette and her extremely fun looks inspired by them.  Also check out her blog at http://www.kandeethemakeupartist.blogspot.com/
